Where Do You Find Happiness?

I have always felt that people should spend more time looking around for simple things to bring them happiness. It seems to me that most people are too negative.  Negativity is laziness. It requires almost no effort to find something to be unhappy about. But sometimes you have to look really hard for happiness. In that vain here are a bunch of quotes on delight for some inspiration on where to find it.

Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.
– Alexander Smith, 1830 – 1867

When you look up at the sky, you have a feeling of unity, which delights you and makes you giddy.
– Ferdinand Hodler, 1853 – 1918

To me travel is a triple delight: anticipation, performance, and recollection.
– Ilka Chase, 1900 – 1978

To show a child what once delighted you, to find the child’s delight added to your own – this is happiness.
– John Boynton Priestley, 1894 – 1984

What we don’t need to know for achievement, we need to know for our pleasure. Knowing how things work is the basis for appreciation, and is thus a source of civilized delight.
– William Safire, 1929 – 2009

Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn’t people feel as free to delight in whatever sunlight remains to them?
– Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1890 – 1995

There is in this world no real delight (excepting those of sensuality), but exchange of ideas in conversation.
– Samuel Johnson, 1709 – 1784

Man’s Best Friend

Recollect that the Almighty, who gave the dog to be companion of our pleasures and our toils, hath invested him with a nature noble and incapable of deceit.

Walter Scott, 1771 – 1832

My dogs always know what is up with me and what is down with me. I have had them lay their furry heads right where I hurt, because they always know, and the pain eased up. I have also had my heart rate and respiration lowered by my faithful companions.  I cannot imagine living without at least one dog in my life.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy—Some New Quotes

I thought I would put up some new quotes today that are uplifting, the kind of thing you would say to someone else if the were in distress.  If you are the one who is in distress, sometimes you need to say the uplifting thing to yourself.

“The greatest  Wealth is contentment with little.”—-English Proverb

“Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission.” Eleanor Roosevelt

“If you can’t make it better, at least you can laugh at it.” —Erma Bombeck

“Don’t worry about the world ending today, it’s already tomorrow in Australia.”—Charles Schultz

“You can’t always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes, you get what you need.”—Mick Jagger

“For everything you have missed, you have gained something else.”—Ralph Waldo Emerson

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.” —Winston Churchill

Life is too short not to be happy.

In times of life crisis, whether wild fires or smoldering stress, the first thing I do is go back to basics… am I eating right, am I getting enough sleep, am I getting some physical and mental exercise everyday.
Edward Albert

When I found this quote, it really spoke to me. I find that rationality and logic are the only things that make sense to me.  I don’t know how to deal with people who are irrational.  I tend to try and be the voice of reason, but there are people that will not listen to reason.  I had never really figured out that maybe the reason I am that way, is because I need reason to feel that my world is stable and less out of control.

I must stress here the point that I appreciate clarity, order, meaning, structure, rationality: they are necessary to whatever provisional stability we have, and they can be the agents of gradual and successful change.
Archie R. Ammons

“The capacity of man himself is only revealed when, under stress and responsibility, he breaks through his educational shell, and he may then be a splendid surprise to himself no less than to this teachers.
Harvey Cushing

Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to-day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life.
Marilu Henner

Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.
Joseph Addison

“Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times.
Aeschylus

No one is in control of your happiness but you; therefore, you have the power to change anything about yourself or your life that you want to change.
Barbara de Angelis

“We exaggerate misfortune and happiness alike. We are never as bad off or as happy as we say we are.
Honore de Balzac

Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open.
John Barrymore
